Boswell and Casanova

By Anonymous (not verified) |

Hello. A note in the Trask edition of Giacomo Casanova's memoirs mentions that he met Boswell in Berlin in 1764, and that Boswell wrote an account of it, refering to Casanova as "Neuhaus" or "Nehaus," a Germman translation of the Italian's surname. Where exactly can I find the account of the meeting in Boswell's work? Thank you.

Boswell in Italian

By Anonymous (not verified) |

Goodmorning,
I am an University student from Milan, and I'm writing my graduation thesis on James Boswell.
I'm having trouble finding books, biographies or other material on this great man in italian (except for Life of Johnson).
Can anyone help me? I can sure read the material about Boswell in English, but it would be nice to find some books about him in my own language.
Thank you,
Marta.

David Kennedy Culzean Castle

My questions is -  How friendly were the two of them?
David Kennedy(1727 - 1792) was the 10th Earl of Cassillis the man who instructed Robert Adam to build Culzean Castle(1777)

Boswell wrote according to the NTS guide book .....
The Coopers they came to Lord Cassillis at Culzean
With their hoops all tight and ready
From London they came down
Baith the Black and the Brown
And they wanted to give him a lady
Your Lordship, we pray, may not say us nae
For it's now full time you were girded (married)

Dumfries House any connections

By Anonymous (not verified) |

Hi,
Do you know if there was any contact/friendship to the Earl of Dumfries ( His House was built 1754 -1759 about the same time as Auchinleck House)
I believe that he wrote or was friends with lord Mountstuart, Earl of Bute whos family later inherited the House. Any Thoughts?
I have been told that a Gateway/ Entrance to Dumfries House was built that required access from Boswell lands, it appears this was not forthcoming.  Again any thoughts?
