Half-brother to the wife of Karl David Kircheisen.

Boswell met Aschersleben at the Kircheisens in Berlin on August 27, 1764, describing him as a "captain of the cavalry, [who] was so much wounded that he quitted the service. He is a changeable, splenetic, unhappy man."
