On his Grand Tour of Europe in 1764-1765, Boswell visited and befriended the famous philosophers Jean-Jacques Rosseau and François-Marie Arouet (Voltaire), and back in Edinburgh he was a personal friend of David Hume.

Robert Scott
Biography:
Author of An Evening's Walk near the Royal Palace of Linlithgow, and probably a sometime army officer. Nothing else appears to be known about him.
Life with Boswell:
Boswell met him and Macpherson at Erskine's in London on June 19, 1763. Pottle conjectures that Boswell admired him greatly, as Boswell's own first published poem was named An Evening Walk in the Abbey Church of Holyroodhouse. (LJ190663n4)
