From 1914 until 1963 Bailey was a professor of English at Stanford University from, where she became regarded as "one of Stanford’s most celebrated teachers in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s."1
She was active in Stanford dramatics and was involved in the Oregon Shakespeare Festival at Ashland, Oregon as both an actress and as a director.2
