James Erskine
Advocate. Son of James Erskine (1679-1754), Lord Grange, and Rachel Chiesly. Married (1740) to his cousin Frances Erskine. Father of John Francis Erskine and James Francis Erskine (d. 1805).
Boswell "sat a good while with him" in London on May 26, 1763. Erskine seems to have been often away, and his wife, Frances, is mentioned more often in the journal.
Unless otherwise noted, the source for a dated quotation of Boswell's is generally the corresponding volume of the Yale Trade Editions of Boswell's journals.
