Sometime (until 1763 or 1764) Chamberlain and Privy Counsellor of Legation at the court of Saxe-Gotha and from March 1, 1764, Chief Steward of that court.

Boswell visited the court in Gotha in mid-October 1764 and on October 17 noted in his journal that he was "allready well with Chambellan Hellmolt a fine fellow like Lord Cassilis, [t]he Grand Ecuier - the Grand Echancon Forstern - [t]he Baron von Schlegel and my good freind the Marêchal."
