Like Boswell's other early writings, this three-penny pamphlet was published anonymously in Edinburgh in October 1760.

The pamphlet was a critical comment by Boswell on Samuel Foote's (1720–1777) play The Minor, which had opened in London at the Little Theatre in the Haymarket in June 1760 and been published in July 1760.

The Monthly Review (December 1760) described Boswell's pamphlet with the following words: "All the humour of this lies in the title-page.”1

Original copies of this work are very difficult to come by today. A few copies exist at the British Library.
