William Richard Middlemore
Son of Richard Middlemore (b. ca. 1699) and Elizabeth. Married to Mary Douglas, with whom he had several children, including George Middlemore (d. 1850), who became Governor of St. Helena.
Middlemore was a sometime officer in the army.
There is still a permanent memorial to Middlemore on the north wall of the Corpus Christi chapel of St. Wulfram's Church in Grantham.
Boswell met him on October 6, 1762 at Kelhead, and described him as "an ugly, stupid, well-tempered gentleman".
Unless otherwise noted, the source for a dated quotation of Boswell's is generally the corresponding volume of the Yale Trade Editions of Boswell's journals.
