Robert Scott
Author of An Evening's Walk near the Royal Palace of Linlithgow, and probably a sometime army officer. Nothing else appears to be known about him.
Boswell met him and James Macpherson at Erskine's in London on June 19, 1763. Pottle conjectures that Boswell admired him greatly, as Boswell's own first published poem was named An Evening Walk in the Abbey Church of Holyroodhouse.1
Unless otherwise noted, the source for a dated quotation of Boswell's is generally the corresponding volume of the Yale Trade Editions of Boswell's journals.
