Elizabeth Hooper - Mrs. James Love
Actress. Daughter of James Hooper, a customs officer. Married to James Dance with whom she had one son, William Dance.
Boswell probably had an affair with Mrs Love (as she then were) in 1761-62, which may have been occasionally renewed following her husband's death in 1774. He went to visit her and her son as the first thing when he returned to Edinburgh from his Harvest Jaunt on October 26, 1762, describing her as "a smart, clever, good-humoured creature, and a very lively actress". He visited her several times before he left Edinburgh for London on November 15 of that year.
Unless otherwise noted, the source for a dated quotation of Boswell's is generally the corresponding volume of the Yale Trade Editions of Boswell's journals.
