Daughter of Gerard Aernoud Hasselaer and Elisabeth Clignet. Married (1751) to Gerard van Amerongen. Sister of Catherina Hasselaer.

Boswell was introduced to Madame Amerongen by her sister Catherina, Madame Geelvinck, on February 4, 1764. Boswell described her as "cold and backward, and seemed to dread strangers and designing foreigners on the Prize".
