Daughter of John Erskine, 6th Earl of Mar and Lady Frances Pierrepont. Married in 1740 to her cousin James Erskine. Mother of John Francis Erskine.

Boswell dined with lady Frances in London on November 29, 1762. The conversation bored him. He visited her house at some other occasions during his 1762-3 stay in London.
