George Talbot Hatley Foote

Biography


Birth: 1744
Death: 1821

Son of Benjamin Hatley Foote and Mary Mann. Barrister-at-law of Lincoln's Inn, educated at St. Mary Hall, Oxford.

In 1797 he had a London residence at 15 Henrietta Street. In 1799 he took a lease of Malling Abbey in West Malling. He bought it in 1808 and lived there until his death in 1821.

On his Grand Tour of Europe in 1764-1765, Boswell visited and befriended the famous philosophers Jean-Jacques Rosseau and François-Marie Arouet (Voltaire), and back in Edinburgh he was a personal friend of David Hume.
