An Account of Corsica, The Journal of a Tour to That Island; and Memoirs of Pascal Paoli (1768)

James Boswell caricature by Thomas Lawrence

This book secured Boswell's fame 23 years before the publication of the Life of Johnson, and he was known in wide circles as Corsica Boswell to his death.

Availability

An Account of Corsica has been reprinted several times, most recently by Oxford University Press in 2006. It is even somewhat easy to acquire an original 1768 first edition of the book today, although they sell for about £400. Be aware that both the first and second editions of the book were published in 1768, so you don't buy the wrong one. Both the 18th century and newer editions are available from Abebooks
