BiographyGeorg Friedrich Schmidt. (1712-1775) Prussian engraver and painter who studied ca. 1736 in Paris under the French master Larmessin. Royal engraver in Berlin 1744-1757 and in Skt. Petersburg from 1757. He returned to work in Berlin in 1762, and stayed there until his death in 1775. Life with James Boswell:
Boswell went, with C. F. Hübner, to see a selection of Schmidt's prints on August 27, 1764. It is unclear if Schmidt himself was present. External links:
