BiographyFriedrich Wilhelm von Wylich. (ca. 1716-1774) Major General in 1763. Son of Johann Christoph von Wylich (1681-1727), and Hermine Alexandrine von Wittenhorst (1685-1745). Married (1763) to Anna Dorothea Scherff. Boswell informs us, that he is a cousin to Baron von Spaen. The only family relation I have been able to find between the Spaens and the Wylichs is the marriage in 1681 between Dietrich von Wylich (1649-1709) and Florentina Anna von Spaen (b. ca. 1660), but I have yet to figure out the exact family relations. Friedrich von Wylich's father is possibly a son of that marriage, but he doesn't appear on any of the lists I've seen. Florentina Anna von Spaen is probably a daughter of Baron von Spaen's grandfather. Life with James Boswell:
Boswell was recommended to General Wylich, presumably by Baron von Spaen, and, on July 22, 1764, talked to him in the royal garden in Berlin.
