From 1777 to 1783 James Boswell was a columnist for the London Magazine, writing a total of seventy essays under the pseudonym the Hypochondriack.

Boswell was introduced to her by her husband on October 9, 1764. He described her as “a handsome young Polish lady”. She was actually of French descendance.
