A Lt-Colonel he was wounded during the battle of Guilford Courthouse on March 15, 1781 and died from his wounds 2 weeks later.

Life with James Boswell:

Webster and Boswell most likely had known each other since childhood, them being first cousins of the same age, and both having lived in Edinburgh for most of their life.

Webster enters the journals when he came to see Boswell in his lodgings on Downing Street on December 18, 1762, having just returned from Germany. Boswell visited him on December 20, and spoke with him again on December 22 and February 18, 1763. They dined together at Mrs. Gould's on January 3, 1763, and Webster visited Boswell on February 18, 1763.
