Biography

William McGhie. (-) (aka. Secretary to the Hunters)

Son of John McGhie of Balmaghie and Isabel Gordon.1 Cloth-merchant in Edinburgh and Secretary to The Society of Hunters (a racing club). "A good-natured man, who has no aversion to be a butt, although he takes care to have a good premium for every arrow that he receives".2

Life with James Boswell:

Boswell met him at Lord Kenmure's on 16/9-1762.

Notes:

Note 1: Boswell states that McGhie was a cousin of Lord Kenmure's. Lord Kenmure's father had a sister, Isabel, who married a John McGhie of Balmaghie.
