BiographyCharles Crookshanks. (-) Steward in England to the 10th Lord Eglinton. Following the Lord's death in 1769, Crookshanks received an annual "pension" of £100. Life with James Boswell:
Boswell met him several times in the spring and summer of 1763, and took a certain liking to Crookshanks, whom he described as "a spirited fellow [who] has read a good deal, and is much of a gentleman" (LJ180263) and "a fine, lively, extravagant fellow" (LJ100663). Crookshanks sometimes visited Boswell in Downing Street, and they breakfasted together on at least one occasion (10/06-63).
